Account 30th August 2010

It was with great sadness that I learned of Nigel's death last week. He was a tremendous guy. I knew him for ten years. We played a round of golf every so often, but mostly, we enjoyed discussing world affairs - Nigel giving me his very well informed, yet unconventional viewpoints and I trying to argue him out them! We always ended things with a laugh, and frankly, it turns out he was often right! Anyway, it was after one of our spirited discussions that I decided to name a character in my book, The Patriots Club, after him. The character, Professor Simon Bonny, is presented as a kind of paranoid conspiracy theorist teaching at Columbia University....the twist, of course, being that all his wildest musings are absolutely right! You can find the character about three pages in of Chapter 45. The book, by the way, went on to win an award for best thriller of the year, so I owe Nigel a part of that accolade! Please accept my sincerest condolences. The world will be less interesting, less vital place without Nigel. I will miss him. Yours, Chris Reich
